Matthieu Ricard, is a Buddhist Monk, Author, Translator and Photographer. After a first trip to India in 1967 where he met the great Tibetan spiritual masters, he completed his PHD in cell genetics in 1972 and then left to settle permanently in the Himalayan region where he now lives for over 40 years.

His books have been translated into more than twenty languages. Matthieu Ricard has devoted his life to the study and practice of Buddhism from Tibetan greatest spiritual teachers of our time, and is the French interpreter for the Dalai Lama since 1989.

Matthieu Ricard is also an active member of the Mind and Life Institute, an association that seeks to deepen scientific understanding of how the mind in order to reduce the inner suffering. Matthew contributes to the study of the benefits of the mind training and meditation on compassion can have on the brain and is the co-author of several scientific publications. He created, Karuna-Shechen. Founded on the vision of "compassionate action" Karuna-Shechen has developed more than 130 educational, medical, and social in the Himalayan region for the benefit of the poorest people.
